The Seattle Seahawks are set to start quarterback Drew Lock for their Week 2 road game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon. Lock will step in for starter Sam Darnold, who sustained a glute injury in the team's Week 1 victory over the New England Patriots.
This marks Lock's second stint with the Seahawks. He joined the team in 2022 as part of a blockbuster trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Lock initially lost a quarterback competition to Geno Smith in 2022 but made two starts in 2023, notably throwing a go-ahead touchdown pass late in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In Seattle's Week 1 win this season, Lock played most of the game, completing 16 of 22 passes for 187 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions, posting a passer rating of 113.3.
Lock's NFL career began when the Denver Broncos selected him with the 42nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He started 21 games for Denver between 2019 and 2021, including a season as the primary starter in 2020 where he threw for 2,933 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.
Prior to his NFL career, Lock played college football at the University of Missouri from 2015 to 2018. He was the Tigers' starting quarterback from 2016 to 2018, averaging 3,620.3 passing yards, 31.7 passing touchdowns, and 10.3 interceptions per season. In 2017, he led the Southeastern Conference (SEC) in passing yards with 3,964 and passing touchdowns with 44. Lock ranks second in Missouri history with 12,193 passing yards and 99 passing touchdowns.
One of Lock's most notable games came in 2024 while playing for the New York Giants. In a 45-33 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Lock threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions, adding a rushing score. He also posted a career-high passer rating of 155.3, the third-highest in Giants' history for a single game. This performance occurred after he made five starts for the Giants, who ultimately selected quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 25th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sunday's start against the Cardinals will be Lock's 29th NFL start.
