Draymond Green Doubts Luka Doncic Will Ever Win MVP
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green stated he believes Luka Doncic will never win an NBA MVP award, despite the Lakers star's impressive performance.
Draymond Green, forward for the Golden State Warriors, has doubled down on his belief that Luka Doncic of the Los Angeles Lakers will never win the NBA's Most Valuable Player award. Green shared his perspective on his podcast, suggesting that voter fatigue will prevent Doncic from receiving the award, even with strong performances.
Doncic recently scored 52 points against the Utah Jazz on Sunday, a performance that fueled speculation about his MVP aspirations for the current season. Green acknowledged Doncic's strong start and his apparent mindset to lead the Lakers team in the absence of LeBron James. However, Green remains unconvinced.
"He put out a letter to the fans and all that. First year not having ‘Bron and it really being his team and organization. And he’s come out and played that way," Green said on his podcast. "But I will tell you, I still don’t think there’s any chance that he’s going to win MVP. Because the moment he have a few bad games or an injury that costs him a few games, people are gonna flip back on him. Oh, same Luka."
Green elaborated on his reasoning, stating, “I still wholeheartedly believe he never wins an MVP… The voters get fatigued seeing you be great over and over again.” He suggested that the public can become accustomed to consistent excellence, leading to a lack of excitement for repeated great performances.
This sentiment echoes a previous discussion Green had regarding Doncic's MVP chances after the 27-year-old received zero votes in a survey of NBA general managers predicting the 2026-27 MVP winner. Despite Doncic's strong individual play, the consensus among league decision-makers does not currently favor him for the MVP award.
