Draymond Green Acknowledges Potential Departure from Warriors, Cites Steph Curry's Unique Position
Green understands his contract situation differs from Curry's, indicating openness to playing elsewhere if he doesn't retire with Golden State.
Draymond Green, a pivotal figure for the Golden State Warriors, has acknowledged the possibility of concluding his NBA career with a different team, a scenario he contrasts with teammate Steph Curry's presumed loyalty to the franchise.
Green is set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason following a one-year contract extension. While he expressed a desire to retire as a Warrior, he recognizes his situation is not identical to Curry's, who recently signed a two-year deal that signals his intent to finish his career in Golden State.
"I would love to retire a Golden State Warrior," Green stated in a recent interview with CNBC. "However, I’m also not Steph Curry, right? So I don’t have every luxury that Steph Curry has, and that’s okay. It’s such a rare thing to be on one team your entire career. And if I can accomplish that feat, I would love to."
Green emphasized that he intends to continue playing basketball next season, whether that is with the Warriors or another team. "If that’s not here, I’m not going to retire. If I don’t [retire with the Warriors], great. But I’m extremely grateful for the journey that I’ve been on here," he added.
Green's current contract guarantees him one more season with the Warriors. His performance throughout this upcoming season may ultimately influence the team's decision regarding his future and whether he can achieve his goal of retiring with the franchise.
