Drake Maye Credits Wife's Cookies for Offensive Line's Zero-Sack Performance
Quarterback Drake Maye attributed the New England Patriots' offensive line's success against the Jets to his wife's baked goods.
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye humorously attributed his team's offensive line's strong performance in their recent win against the New York Jets to cookies baked by his wife, Ann Michael. The offensive line managed to allow zero sacks during the game, a notable achievement against a Jets defense that had been among the league leaders in sacks.
"I said, ‘I gotta bring in some more treats,’ shout out Ann Michael,” Maye said after the game, laughing. “Gotta keep on bringing some more treats. Those guys are doing a heck of a job in there.”
Ann Michael Maye has gained attention as her husband's NFL career has progressed. She previously drew social media notice for her baking content on TikTok during a period known as "Bakemas." Last season, Maye mentioned that he would share leftovers of his wife's baked goods with his teammates.
The Jets' defensive front had been particularly effective in pressuring opposing quarterbacks, having sacked Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson eight times in the previous week. The Patriots' ability to protect Maye against this unit was a key factor in their victory.
Beyond the treats, Maye also expressed admiration for the offensive linemen's effort and the coaching staff. "These guys are fighting hard. They’re fighting their butts off, and it goes through them,” Maye stated. “That last drive running the football, [I] had the best seat in the house. Was beautiful to see, and I think the more we can do that, the more we can just gel together as offense and lean on that.”
