In 2016, Cameron's engagement to her 'Liv and Maddie' co-star Ryan McCartan ended. McCartan later accused her of infidelity, a claim Cameron seemingly addressed by retweeting a quote about toxic people trying to control perceptions when they can no longer control someone.

Another significant loss occurred in 2019 when Cameron's 'Descendants' co-star Cameron Boyce died at age 20 from a seizure. Cameron paid a heartfelt tribute to Boyce, remembering him as a selfless, generous, and kind individual who significantly impacted her life, helping her through difficult times. She later got a tattoo in his memory.
