Double Murder Trial Begins for Officer Accused of Killing Ex-Boyfriend and His Partner
Prosecutors allege Beau Lamarre-Condon developed an obsession after their breakup, leading to a plot to murder Jesse Baird and Luke Davies.
The murder trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon, a former senior constable, commenced Monday with the prosecution detailing allegations that he murdered his ex-boyfriend Jesse Baird and Baird's new partner, Luke Davies. Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of domestic violence-related murder and one count of aggravated break and enter.
According to crown prosecutor Brett Hatfield SC, Lamarre-Condon and Baird had an on-again, off-again relationship from 2022 to 2023, which ended due to Baird's reluctance for a serious commitment. The court heard that Baird discovered Lamarre-Condon had allegedly accessed his Instagram account and phone, deleting messages and blocking contacts. Following the final breakup, prosecutors claim Lamarre-Condon became obsessed with Baird.
Hatfield alleged that Lamarre-Condon used his position as a senior constable to obtain CCTV footage of Baird on a date and to spy on his interactions with others. The court was told that Lamarre-Condon allegedly watched Baird engage in sexual activity with other men through Baird's bedroom window.
Prosecutors also presented evidence of Lamarre-Condon's alleged escalating behavior, including Baird waking up to find Lamarre-Condon in his bedroom, damage to Baird's vehicle, and Tamarre-Condon allegedly slashing Baird's tires and putting water in his ute's diesel tank.
In November 2023, after their relationship had ended, Lamarre-Condon allegedly contacted Baird through a disguised message, pretending to be a mutual friend. This message informed Baird that Lamarre-Condon had been diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his shoulder, requiring potential amputation and subsequent chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Hatfield SC stated that the prosecution alleges Lamarre-Condon did not have cancer and was not undergoing treatment.
The alleged murders occurred in February 2024. The court heard that Lamarre-Condon, disguised as an Uber Eats driver, gained entry to Baird's home and fatally shot both Baird and Davies. Their bodies were discovered eight days later in surf bags in a rural area southwest of Sydney.
The prosecution's opening statements are expected to conclude on Tuesday, after which Lamarre-Condon's defense team will present their opening statements.
