DoorDash Customer Faces Backlash for Reporting Driver With Children
A post on a DoorDash driver Facebook group sparked outrage after a customer reported a driver for having her children present during deliveries.
A DoorDash customer has drawn sharp criticism after reporting a driver for bringing her children along while completing deliveries. The incident, shared on the public Facebook group "DoorDash Drivers," ignited a debate among users.
The customer, identified as Patricia Pearls from Houston, Texas, posted on the group's page, stating, "Sorry but I had to, saw three kids in the back [of the car]. Reported. Immediately." Pearls, who is also an administrator for the group and a content creator with a significant social media following, stated her actions on a Saturday morning.
However, her post was met with widespread disapproval. "Wow sad! A mother chooses not to sit on welfare and work to support her kids and you do that! You're pathetic," one user commented. Another added, "Everyone in the world is struggling right now with these outrageous prices - maybe they were trying to do a few deliveries to feed their family, or buy diapers! I don't care who drops my delivery off as long as I get it! Some of ya'll are so damn selfish and clueless! Mind your damn business."
Other group members questioned Pearls's actions, with one asking, "And this is your business... Why????" Some users speculated that the post was intended as "rage bait," while many others labeled Pearls a "snitch" and a "Karen."
DoorDash's community guidelines for drivers do not explicitly prohibit passengers. The company's policy states that only the individual whose background-checked DoorDash account is active should complete deliveries, which involves picking up and dropping off orders.
Since its founding in 2013, DoorDash has seen over 13 million individuals in the U.S. reportedly drive for the platform. In a separate incident earlier in the year, a DoorDash driver shared a post on Reddit about a customer who requested he dance the Macarena for an extra $3 tip before delivering a McDonald's order. The driver declined the request, stating he did not need to be recorded for such a small additional amount.
