Donnie Wahlberg Praises God and Pilots After Jet Skids Off Runway in Las Vegas
The singer and actor recounted a near-disaster experience after his private jet veered off the runway at Harry Reid International Airport.
Donnie Wahlberg expressed gratitude to God and the pilots after the private jet he was traveling on skidded off a runway at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. The incident occurred Sunday, shortly after Wahlberg had performed with the New Kids on the Block for the final show of their Las Vegas residency.
"I appreciate your concern and well wishes," Wahlberg wrote on social media, addressing messages he received after the event. "It was a rather intense few moments, which felt like a few long minutes."
In a video shared after the incident, Wahlberg explained that the plane did not gain sufficient altitude for takeoff and ran out of runway. "We're all okay. I'm okay," he stated. "We were taking off and didn't get up in the air and ran out of runway."
Wahlberg credited the pilots with preventing a serious disaster, stating, "I just finished praying, and I looked out the window and said, ‘We're not going up in the air today, but we're safe and thankful.’ All is good. Praise Jesus."
He further detailed how the aircraft narrowly missed various obstacles, including trucks, heavy equipment, and dumpsters located near the end of the runway. "Thankful to God, of course, and to our incredible pilots who did an amazing job of keeping us safe and avoiding a serious disaster," he wrote. "The airplane did take some lumps — but we did not."
Wahlberg also extended his thanks to the emergency personnel who responded to the scene. "Thank you to all the emergency personnel on the ground in Las Vegas! You all were absolutely wonderful," he added. "All glory to God! By His grace, we are all ok."
His wife, Jenny McCarthy, commented on his post, writing, "God is so good!"
A spokesperson for Harry Reid International Airport confirmed that the aircraft skidded off runway 1L at approximately 11 a.m. and made contact with the airport's perimeter fence. The airport stated that there were no known injuries. The incident led to the temporary closure of runways 1R and 1L for inspection, which caused potential delays for travelers. Both runways were reopened later that day after inspections were completed.
Air traffic control recordings from the event captured a voice stating, "Aborting. Aborting," followed by confirmation from an air traffic controller that emergency vehicles were being dispatched.
