Donna Kelce Defends Son Travis Over Resurfaced Offensive Tweets
The NFL star's mother stated on social media that the controversial posts were not from Travis Kelce's account.
Donna Kelce has publicly denied that her son, NFL player Travis Kelce, authored a series of offensive tweets that recently resurfaced online. The posts, allegedly written between 2009 and 2011, before Kelce began his professional football career, contained disparaging remarks about women.
"Not Travis' handle and not his account!!" Donna Kelce wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday after being tagged in the posts. The tweets, which have since been deleted, reportedly referred to women as "ugly" and "fat," with one from 2010 stating, "As a man, You have something wrong with you if your (sic) going for girls that weigh more then (sic) you." Another from the same year allegedly said, "Why can’t girls hide they (sic) backfat? That s–t nasty."
Several of the alleged tweets reportedly mocked women's appearances, with one joking about being "attacked by ugly girls" and another commenting, "Haha I just caught myself judging every person that walked past me, whether they were ugly, fat, funny looking, sexy haha I’m trippin."
A representative for Travis Kelce did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
This is not the first time Kelce's older social media activity has drawn attention. In 2023, he addressed other resurfaced tweets on his and his brother Jason Kelce's podcast, "New Heights." At the time, he stated that he used X as a "diary" and that "nobody followed me back then." He also mentioned efforts to have the tweets deleted, noting that the posts had resurfaced during a "f–king year" he couldn't recall clearly.
The resurfacing of the tweets comes amid a period of heightened public scrutiny for Kelce, who recently "liked" a social media post supporting comedian Shane Gillis's controversial opening monologue on "Saturday Night Live." During the monologue, which aired on October 10, Gillis made offensive remarks about women at the gym. A source close to Travis Kelce told Page Six that the athlete was "supporting a friend" and had been a "massive fan of the show."
Travis Kelce is currently preparing to play with the Kansas City Chiefs against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri. The attendance of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, at the game remains unconfirmed.
