Don Lemon Weighs Presidential Run, Estimates 65-70% Chance
The former CNN host indicated he is seriously considering a 2028 presidential bid.
Former CNN anchor Don Lemon has stated he is giving serious consideration to a presidential run in 2028, estimating a 65% to 70% likelihood he will enter the race. Lemon revealed his increased consideration for a potential candidacy in an interview on the "Uncloseted Media podcast."
Lemon explained that he has observed similarities between himself and politicians who connect well with the public. He noted that people often interact with him in a similar manner to how they engage with political figures. This observation has led him to consider whether his most impactful role in society would be through journalism or the presidency.
He emphasized that a decision would hinge on public support, stating, "If the people want me, I’ll do it." Lemon acknowledged the significant commitment required for a presidential campaign, noting it would necessitate full-time devotion, which might divert from his journalistic pursuits.
Lemon first publicly mentioned the possibility of a presidential run earlier in the year during an interview on the "Can't Be Censored" podcast. At that time, he asserted he was "totally serious" about exploring a run for higher office. He also commented that he believes he "would be a really good president of the United States," provided he could campaign without needing to solicit donations.
When asked about his political leanings, Lemon stated he identifies as an independent. This contrasts with assumptions that he might align with the Democratic party, given his public profile.
