Former CNN host Don Lemon has stated he is "totally serious" about considering a run for president in 2028. Lemon discussed his potential political ambitions on the "Can’t Be Censored" podcast, indicating that he has spoken with individuals experienced in politics about what such a campaign would entail.
Despite acknowledging a lack of personal political ambition and experience, Lemon expressed confidence in his ability to serve as president if elected. He articulated a desire to run a campaign funded by citizens rather than through traditional fundraising methods, though he admitted this approach may be unrealistic. "I would rather the people of the United States to say, ‘That’s the guy that we want. I’m gonna give him $5 or $10’ or something that doesn’t break the bank because I know that the economy is tough,” Lemon said.
Lemon, who worked at CNN from 2006 until his termination in 2023, plans to make a decision about a potential run closer to 2027 or 2028. His departure from CNN followed an on-air comment about Nikki Haley and allegations of workplace misconduct. He was also arrested in January on federal civil rights charges.
Lemon is not the only media personality to have publicly considered a presidential run. Sports pundit Stephen A. Smith and former "Late Show" host Stephen Colbert have also addressed similar discussions about their potential political futures.
