Don Lemon, a former CNN host now working as an independent journalist, has expressed serious consideration for a presidential run in the 2028 election. Lemon made the remarks during an appearance on the "Can't Be Censored" podcast, hosted by Karman Wong and Travis Dhanraj.
When asked about political ambitions, Lemon indicated that while he hasn't actively pursued them, the frequent inquiries from the public about a potential candidacy have made him consider the possibility. "I might, because people keep asking me to do it, or if I'm going to do it," Lemon stated.
Lemon, 60, defended the idea that extensive political experience is not a prerequisite for the presidency, referencing Donald Trump's lack of a political background prior to his 2016 election. He also offered criticism of Trump's tenure, suggesting that the former president could have performed better by being more receptive to advice.
"I actually think I would be a really good president of the United States," Lemon asserted. He added that for a presidential campaign to be feasible, he would need to avoid relying on extensive fundraising, a condition he is uncertain about fulfilling.
Lemon's tenure at CNN concluded in April 2023. Since his departure, he has established "The Don Lemon Show" on platforms including YouTube. Earlier in the year, he was among 39 individuals charged with federal civil rights violations for participating in a protest at a church service in Minnesota, an event he stated he joined in his capacity as an independent journalist.
