Dolly Parton, 80, made a rare social media appearance on Wednesday, sharing a cheerful photo with her 66-year-old sister, Rachel Parton George. The post comes nearly two months after Parton canceled her Las Vegas residency due to ongoing health struggles.

The country music star, known for her signature blonde hair and glam makeup, appeared in good spirits, dressed in a red gingham blouse and white pants. The sisters were pictured in a backyard setting, decorated for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, with plates of barbecue ribs and corn on the cob. Parton's caption indicated they were preparing some of their favorite recipes from their 2024 cookbook, "Good Lookin' Cookin': A Year of Meals - A Lifetime of Family, Friends, and Food."

Fans reacted positively in the comments, complimenting Parton's appearance amid her health battle, which she publicly disclosed in May. Representatives for Parton have not yet responded to requests for comment.

Health Challenges and Recovery

Parton was forced to cancel her planned Las Vegas residency in May, after initially postponing it in September, citing undisclosed "health challenges." She revealed in May that she has "always had problems with my kidney stones" and that her immune and digestive systems had been "out of whack" for the past three years, requiring significant recovery.

"The good news is I'm responding really well to meds and treatments and I'm improving every day," Parton stated in her update. "Now, the bad news is, it's gonna take me a little while before I'm up to stage performance level because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit 'swimmy-headed'. And of course, I can't be dizzy carrying around banjos, guitars and such on five-inch heels. And you know that I'm going to be wearing them!"

Previously, Parton had mentioned taking time to recover after grieving the loss of her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, who passed away in 2025. The couple had been together for over 50 years.

Parton made her first public appearance since confirming her health struggles last month; seen on June 24

Parton has maintained a relatively low public profile this year, missing events such as her birthday concert at the Grand Ole Opry in January and a Dollywood announcement due to health complications. She made her first public appearance since confirming her health struggles on June 24 at the opening of Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop in Cornersville, Tennessee, where she expressed pride in the new venture and playfully referenced rival truck stop chains.
