Dolly Parton's Nephew Claims Legal Obstacles in Estate Dispute
Bryan Seaver seeks an extension in estate litigation, citing difficulties in finding legal representation due to potential conflicts of interest.
Dolly Parton's nephew, Bryan Seaver, has requested a 10-day extension to a court hearing concerning a temporary restraining order sought by the late singer's estate. The hearing is currently scheduled for October 9.
Seaver has reportedly encountered challenges in securing legal counsel in Tennessee, with attorneys he has approached having existing ties to Pinnacle Bank, an institution involved in the ongoing litigation. This alleged conflict of interest has made it difficult for Seaver to find representation, sources told TMZ. The estate, managed by Parton's longtime manager Danny Nozell through its entity She's Alive, LLC, has accused Seaver and his company, Squadron Augmented Protection Services, of making threats of violence and business sabotage.
In a court motion, Seaver stated that the defendants "lack any legal knowledge or skills to proceed in this matter without retained counsel or what, if any, challenges can or should be raised." Nozell had previously filed for the restraining order after reportedly receiving communications from Seaver that included references to his military contractor background, access to weapons, and capacity for violence. Seaver was fired from his security role for Parton's estate on September 15.
Seaver, however, has disputed these claims, characterizing the restraining order as a "publicity stunt" and a misinterpretation of private conversations. He explained that comments he made, including referring to himself as a "killer," were jokes made in the context of his relationship with Parton and were taken out of context by Nozell. Seaver also stated that he is a "career soldier and military contractor" who conducts arms deals for foreign governments and is a "security professional," but maintained that his communications were not threats.
Seaver's dismissal from his security positions, which included providing protection for Parton's Nashville home, museum, and a warehouse, was reportedly orchestrated by Nozell and Pinnacle Bank, according to sources close to Seaver. A new security team has since been deployed to these locations.
Seaver, whose mother is Parton's sister, was entrusted by the singer to announce her death in August. He had served as Parton's head of security for approximately two decades and had worked for her for four decades. In a statement following Parton's passing, Seaver expressed gratitude for the opportunities Parton had provided for him and her family.
Parton has been honored with a tribute at the Primetime Emmy Awards and Nashville International Airport is slated to be renamed in her memory.
