Dolly Parton's Late Husband's Estate Management Shifts to Niece After Singer's Death

The estate of the late Carl Dean, husband of country music icon Dolly Parton, is now being managed by his niece, Dea Chaggin Cunningham. Dean's passing occurred on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Parton herself died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80.

According to legal documents reviewed by TMZ, Cunningham was appointed to administer Dean's estate after Parton, due to her own health issues, was unable to finalize the arrangements before her death. Dean's will stipulated that if he predeceased Parton, his estate would go to her. However, it also included a clause that if Parton died before him, his estate would be divided among his and Parton's respective nieces and nephews.

Among the beneficiaries listed is Parton's nephew, Bryan Seaver, who has been involved in a legal dispute with Parton's business manager following her death. Parton and Dean were married for over 58 years, exchanging vows on May 30, 1966, in Ringgold, Georgia. Parton often spoke fondly of their enduring relationship, describing it as a "great old love story" in a November interview with People magazine. She characterized Dean as an "independent" and "loner" type who enjoyed his privacy and preferred life on their farm, which suited their dynamic given her public persona.

Parton stated that Dean's primary desire was to avoid the spotlight, noting, "he was famous for not being famous." He was a business owner who ran a paving company. In a public announcement of Parton's death, Seaver mentioned Dean, saying, "Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens."
