Dolly Parton's Final Song Featured on U2's Upcoming Album 'Carnaval De Luz'
The late country music icon's last recorded vocal performance, titled 'Torn,' will appear on the Irish band's new album.
Dolly Parton's final recorded song, titled "Torn," is a collaboration featured on U2's upcoming album, "Carnaval De Luz," scheduled for release on November 13. Interscope Records confirmed the song includes what is "sadly... her last recorded vocal performance," following her passing on August 25.
U2 frontman Bono, 66, shared that Parton recorded her vocals in June while undergoing treatment for cancer. "When she got ill, she got out of her bed to sing this song, and you can hear that," Bono told Rolling Stone. "And I can't even listen to it now."
Bono recounted that Parton had previously declined an offer to work on an Irish folk song, suggesting instead a track she had titled "Torn." Bono then enlisted Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid to help restructure the song's lyrics, after which Parton agreed to participate. Producer Garret "Jacknife" Lee stated that Parton "was thrilled with" the final product, expressing her pride in her vocal performance.
"Carnaval De Luz" marks U2's first album of new musical material in nine years. The album's release follows a recent dispute involving Parton's estate and her nephew, Bryan Seaver, who was removed from his position as security chief for Parton's properties amid a temporary restraining order filed by her manager. Parton's sister, Stella, alluded to family struggles in a social media post, emphasizing the family's continued unity.
