DOJ Seeks to Prosecute Former FBI Director James Comey

The Justice Department is seeking to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey, alleging he willfully communicated national defense information to an unauthorized person in 2016. Federal prosecutors filed a two-count criminal information against Comey in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, accusing him of communicating national defense information and conspiracy.

Prosecutors allege that on or about October 5, 2016, Comey knowingly and willfully shared information related to national defense with an individual not entitled to receive it. The filing further states that Comey had reason to believe this information could be used to harm the United States or benefit a foreign nation. The government also claims Comey conspired with others to unlawfully disclose national defense information.

This marks the third attempt by the Justice Department to prosecute Comey. Further details are expected as the case develops.
