Dog Survives Avalanche in Alaska After 50 Hours Buried in Snow

A dog named LouLou has been miraculously rescued alive in Alaska, more than 50 hours after being separated from her owner during an avalanche. The 4-year-old huskydoodle was on a hike with her owner, Brian, and a friend in Chugach State Park near Eklutna Lake when an avalanche struck, burying the dog and injuring the hikers.

Brian and his companion were rescued and taken to a hospital, but LouLou was initially unaccounted for. Her other owner, Lauren Padawer, who was out of town at the time of the incident, quickly organized search efforts.

After initial searches yielded no sign of LouLou, two members of the search party, Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett, returned to the area with a helicopter. They were guided by an AirTag ping that indicated the dog's location. Upon landing the helicopter as close as possible, they spotted LouLou in the distance, standing in the snow.

Barker and Beckett trekked through the snow for approximately 20 minutes to reach the dog, who barked as they approached. Despite her initial hesitation, they were able to leash LouLou and carefully made their way back to the helicopter. Video footage captured the moment LouLou was reunited with her rescuers and received attention.

Padawer expressed gratitude on Facebook to everyone involved in the search, including ground teams, military pararescue personnel, and those who offered assistance. She stated, "Sometimes it takes a mountain to remind you how extraordinary people can be."
