Dog-nappers Snatch Yorkshire Terrier in Brazen Queens Theft
Authorities are seeking public assistance to identify two individuals who stole a 10-year-old Yorkshire Terrier named Chanel from a College Point yard.
A "loving and flirty" Yorkshire Terrier named Chanel was snatched from a College Point yard on September 17 by two individuals who authorities are now seeking the public's help to identify. The theft occurred around 6 p.m. when the dog's owner, Claudia Jaramillo Lopez, briefly stepped away from her home on 130th Street and 14th Avenue.
Lopez, 47, stated that the two suspects pulled up to her residence in a Subaru Forester. Initially, Chanel, who is 10 years old and described as playful but cautious with strangers, resisted their attempts to coax her into the vehicle. The surveillance footage shows one of the individuals forcibly picking up Chanel and placing her into the car.
When Lopez returned with her other Yorkshire Terrier, Leti, Chanel was gone. She expressed distress, stating she was certain Chanel would be where she left her and that the dog knew her home. The realization that Chanel had been stolen came after her husband reviewed security camera footage.
Chanel is described as a petite tan and gray-colored dog, valued at approximately $1,200. Police have released images of the suspects, their vehicle, and Chanel, and are asking anyone with information to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online via the Crime Stoppers website or on X (@NYPDTips).
