A month-long search for a missing dog ended unexpectedly when the pet was discovered participating in street celebrations following Mexico's World Cup victory.
Gorda, owned by Ale Garcia, went missing on May 24 from the Lomas de Guadalupe neighborhood in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. Garcia had no information about her dog's whereabouts for weeks.
Her luck changed when videos surfaced online showing jubilant fans celebrating Mexico's 3-0 win against the Czech Republic. The victory marked a perfect group stage for the national team, leading to widespread festivities across the country. In one video posted to a local Facebook page, a fan was seen carrying a dog through the streets, with the caption humorously noting, "Even the dog is out celebrating."
Garcia's brother recognized Gorda in the video and, using landmarks visible in the background, the family was able to locate the dog amidst the ongoing celebrations.
Gorda recognized her owner, and the reunion was emotional for Garcia. "After a month of worrying, I never imagined we'd find her thanks to a live video of the celebrations after Mexico winning," she told local reporters. "It was a mix of emotions: I wanted to cry, to laugh, to hug her and even to scold her at the same time. While we were worried looking for her, she was out partying!"
Following the reunion, Gorda was taken to a veterinarian who confirmed she was in good health, requiring only food and rest. She is now back home with her family.
The story garnered attention on social media, with many users expressing amusement and delight at Gorda's unexpected adventure. Comments ranged from wishes for her own book of adventures to observations about the unique circumstances of her recovery.
