Dog Hailed as 'Loyal Companion' After Leading Police to Owner's Aid in Kansas

A dog in Leawood, Kansas, is being recognized by local police for its quick actions in helping its owner, who had fallen and was unable to get up. The Leawood Police Department shared bodycam footage showing an officer encountering the dog, which appeared to be guiding him.

The officer, patrolling a residential neighborhood, noticed the dog on a leash with no owner in sight. The dog began barking at the officer, who, after initially suggesting the dog return home, decided to follow it. The footage reveals the officer following the animal about half a block to its residence.

Upon arrival at the home, the officer discovered the garage door open and the homeowner on the floor, incapacitated. According to police, the resident had been in that condition for over three hours. The dog's actions enabled the officer to locate the individual and ensure they received necessary medical attention.

"Thanks to the resident’s loyal companion, our officer was able to find them and get them the help they needed," police stated. "The resident was treated by medical personnel and is now recovering safely at home."

Bodycam footage captured the moment the officer first encountered the dog, which was in the middle of the road. The officer then followed the dog to the garage area, where another dog also appeared.
