Dodgers' Three-Peat Bid Ends in NLCS Sweep by Brewers

The Los Angeles Dodgers' quest for a third consecutive World Series championship was extinguished Thursday night as they fell 5-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, completing a stunning sweep.

The Brewers’ victory at Dodger Stadium marked the end of a dominant season for the Dodgers, who entered the postseason as one of the favorites to win the World Series. Their elimination, however, was sealed in a familiar fashion for the series: a late-game collapse after building an early lead.

Shohei Ohtani provided a spark in the second inning with a three-run home run, his first of the postseason, giving the Dodgers a 4-0 advantage. This offensive outburst was reminiscent of the team's regular-season success, which saw them amass a record $432 million payroll and win 100 games en route to their 13th NL West title in 14 years.

However, the Brewers, who had consistently rallied to overcome Dodgers leads throughout the series, mounted another comeback. They cut the deficit in the fourth inning with two runs driven in by Jake Bauers, who had been a key offensive force for Milwaukee in the series.

The momentum continued to shift in the fifth inning. After a walk and a stolen base, the Brewers tied the game with a single. A subsequent series of walks loaded the bases for designated hitter Christian Yelich, who drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the tying run. The Dodgers brought in reliever Alex Vesia, but he was unable to contain the Brewers' offense, walking in the go-ahead run.

Milwaukee extended their lead in the sixth inning on Garrett Mitchell’s solo home run, securing the decisive advantage.

The loss marked a disappointing end for a Dodgers team that had high expectations. The defeat raises questions about the team's future, with aging roster members, potential retirements, and the uncertainty of a new collective-bargaining agreement potentially leading to significant changes in the offseason.
