The Los Angeles Dodgers continued to struggle, succumbing to a 9-2 blowout loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium. The defeat, marked by defensive miscues and a listless offense, raises concerns as the team approaches the All-Star break.

This latest performance echoed recent games where sloppy defense has contributed to losses. Pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, an All-Star, experienced a difficult sixth inning, allowing five of the six runs he surrendered that night. "This time, though, it was a listless offense that served as the most glaring example of their recent incompetence," the New York Post reported.

For the first five innings, the Dodgers' offense was unable to generate runs against Arizona starter Brandon Pfaadt. While they managed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth after knocking Pfaadt out of the game, they failed to build on the rally. The team ended the night with just six hits and was 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Defensive lapses also played a role in the Dodgers' struggles. Max Muncy had a throwing error at third base in the third inning. In the sixth, a double down the line by Tim Tawa, which Muncy could not field cleanly, contributed to a significant inning for the Diamondbacks. Following an intentional walk to Nolan Arenado, James McCann hit a three-run home run, which was the season-high sixth run allowed by Yamamoto.

Landon Knack made his season debut for the Dodgers out of the bullpen, but his appearance did not go as planned. He allowed one run in the seventh inning and gave up solo home runs to Arenado and McCann in the eighth. Knack was activated from the injured list to provide bullpen coverage after the team utilized a bullpen game the previous night. In a corresponding move, struggling right-hander Kyle Hurt was optioned out, though manager Dave Roberts indicated Hurt was expected to rejoin the team in the second half.

The Dodgers will aim to avoid being swept by the Diamondbacks on Sunday as they conclude the first half of the season. Emmet Sheehan is scheduled to start for the Dodgers against Arizona rookie Mitch Bratt, who is taking the place of the injured Zac Gallen.
