Dodgers Open NLDS with Victory Over Braves
Los Angeles secures a 5-3 win in Game 1, overcoming a five-day layoff and intense heat.
The Los Angeles Dodgers began their National League Division Series (NLDS) campaign with a 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. The win came despite a five-day layoff for the Dodgers and intense heat at Dodger Stadium.
Tarik Skubal, the Dodgers' reigning two-time Cy Young Award winner, delivered a strong performance, pitching six innings and allowing only one run while striking out seven. The offense was sparked by Teoscar Hernández's two-run home run in the fourth inning. Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy also contributed with home runs later in the game to extend the lead.
The Braves, who were coming off a three-game wild-card series, struggled to find their rhythm against Skubal. Atlanta's lone run off Skubal came from a leadoff home run by catcher Sean Murphy in the sixth inning. The Braves managed to narrow the deficit in the ninth inning when Ozzie Albies hit a two-run homer off reliever Tanner Scott, but Evan Phillips closed out the game for the Dodgers.
Despite concerns about offensive rhythm after their extended break, the Dodgers' hitters showed up. Freddie Freeman drew a walk before Hernández's pivotal home run. Tucker's blast in the seventh inning further padded the lead, followed by Muncy's home run, his 17th in postseason play.
The Dodgers' bullpen also contributed, with Brock Stewart and Alex Vesia pitching perfect innings. The victory marks a decisive first step in the Dodgers' quest for a third consecutive World Series title.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Sunday evening at Dodger Stadium.
