Dodgers' Max Muncy's Playoff Power Linked to Unique Dugout Ritual
A personalized prayer candle featuring the slugger has become a visible good luck charm for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Max Muncy's impactful performances in the postseason for the Los Angeles Dodgers now have a symbolic, and perhaps spiritual, element tied to them: a personalized prayer candle.
During the Dodgers' National League Division Series Game 4 victory against the Atlanta Braves on Oct. 4, 2026, a candle bearing Muncy's likeness was spotted in the dugout, held by rookie outfielder Josue De Paula. Muncy hit a crucial solo home run in the ninth inning of that game, extending his franchise record for postseason home runs to 19. This home run helped seal the Dodgers' 4-1 win and advance them in the playoffs.
The candle, which has also been seen with shortstop Alex Freeland in the dugout during previous games, features an image of Muncy in a Dodgers jersey. He is depicted wearing a clerical stole adorned with his number 13 and the Dodgers' logo, along with a gold chain. Muncy is also shown holding a baseball in his right hand on the candle.
Fans have taken to social media to discuss the unique item, with videos circulating of players interacting with the candle during games. The team's recent success has led some to jokingly attribute their strong performance, in part, to the presence of this distinctive piece of dugout memorabilia.
