Dodgers Face 60-Year Historic Hole After NLCS Game 3 Loss

The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves in a precarious 3-0 deficit in the National League Championship Series against the Milwaukee Brewers following a 6-2 loss in Game 3. This marks the first time the franchise has trailed by three games in a postseason series in 60 years, with the last occurrence being the 1966 World Series against the Baltimore Orioles.

In that 1966 series, the Dodgers lost the first three games, ultimately being swept after a 1-0 loss in Game 4, where legendary pitcher Don Drysdale was the losing pitcher. Historically, teams that fall behind 3-0 in a best-of-seven series face daunting odds. Of the 43 instances where a team has gone down 3-0, only one has managed to come back and win the series: the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS against the New York Yankees. The vast majority of such series, 32 out of the 42 prior to this one, have ended in a sweep.

Game 4 of the current NLCS is scheduled for Thursday night, presenting an immediate opportunity for the Brewers to complete a sweep or for the Dodgers to begin an improbable comeback attempt.
