Los Angeles Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman stated that Shohei Ohtani is expected to return to the regular season lineup before its conclusion. Ohtani has been rehabilitating from right arm and left knee injuries and was not with the team when they clinched the National League West title on Thursday.
Friedman expressed optimism about Ohtani's recovery, noting that he is "progressing well." Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Ohtani has been experiencing "no pain" and is undertaking activities as planned. Ohtani began a hitting ramp-up on Tuesday by taking swings off a batting tee and is scheduled to advance to coach-pitch batting practice later in the week.
While Ohtani has made encouraging progress, Roberts cautioned that it is still uncertain when the two-way star will be cleared to return to play. The team is aware that Ohtani will not be able to pitch in the playoffs due to his arm issues. His ability to hit in the postseason remains a question mark, especially as he experienced a slump leading up to his placement on the injured list. Despite these uncertainties, the Dodgers are hopeful that Ohtani can contribute to their championship aspirations, potentially before the playoffs even begin.
