The Los Angeles Dodgers are contemplating a significant move by considering benching star player Shohei Ohtani as they face a 0-2 deficit in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that a conversation about Ohtani's playing status is planned, acknowledging the player's "egregious slump" and that he "doesn’t feel great."

Roberts stated his intention to discuss with Ohtani what would be best for both the player and the team. "He certainly has earned that conversation and deserves it," Roberts told The Athletic.

Ohtani's performance in the current postseason has been a stark contrast to his regular-season success. Through seven playoff games, he has recorded only three hits in 20 at-bats and has yet to achieve an extra-base hit. This slump is compounded by ongoing injury issues that have plagued him throughout the season.

He has been dealing with discomfort in his surgically repaired knee, a condition he reported midway through the year. Additionally, Ohtani has experienced issues with his bicep. These physical ailments may be contributing to his current struggles on the field.
