The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers in a significant trade deadline move. The deal brings a prominent pitcher to the Dodgers as they pursue a third consecutive World Series title.

In exchange for Skubal, the Tigers will receive outfielder Zyhir Hope and right-handed pitchers River Ryan and Brady Smith. The trade was confirmed by multiple sources, with Jon Heyman of the New York Post first reporting the agreement.

Skubal, a 29-year-old left-hander, has been a standout pitcher for the Tigers. He is eligible for free agency after this season but has posted a 7-5 record with a 2.79 earned run average this year. Since returning from an elbow procedure on May 6, he has maintained a 2.87 ERA.

The Tigers, who had considered trading Skubal in the offseason, initially held onto him with hopes of competing in 2026. However, after a season that saw the team struggle, particularly in May, Detroit has shifted to a selling position ahead of the trade deadline.

Despite having what was considered a strong starting rotation, the Dodgers have consistently pursued "needle-moving" players. The acquisition of Skubal, widely regarded as the top pitcher available at the deadline, further bolsters a roster already considered a favorite to contend for the championship. The Dodgers previously added Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, underscoring their aggressive strategy in building a championship team. The team has also recently dealt with injuries to key starters like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, making Skubal's addition a strategic enhancement to their pitching depth.
