The National Geographic docuseries '9/11 Reunited' brings together individuals who aided one another during the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. The three-part series, produced in conjunction with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, marks the first time these people have seen each other since the events of that day, 25 years prior.

Each episode explores two distinct narratives of survival and mutual aid. Archival footage from the day, including the moment American Airlines Flight 77 struck the North Tower at 8:46 a.m., is interwoven with personal accounts. The series aims to provide context for a generation that may not have direct memories of the attacks, as approximately one-third of the country was too young to remember 9/11 firsthand.

One story featured in the series involves John Paczkowski, George Phoenix, and Jan Demczur. Trapped in an elevator when the North Tower was hit, Demczur, a window cleaner, used his squeegee to score the drywall, enabling their escape through a hole on the 50th floor into a stairwell. They evacuated the building just five minutes before its collapse.

Another narrative follows Debbie St. John, who was near the towers when the South Tower was struck by United Airlines Flight 175 at 9:03 a.m. St. John was injured by falling debris, possibly from the plane's engine. Stefan Horlacher stopped to assist her, staying with her until an ambulance arrived. The injuries to her back required 18 months of hospitalization and 50 surgeries. The series documents St. John's reunion with Horlacher, where she aimed to show him her recovery, including her ability to walk and ride a horse.

The series acknowledges the deeply affecting nature of the archival footage, which includes scenes of the planes hitting the towers, the resulting fireballs, and people in peril. However, it balances these harrowing images with the human stories of connection formed in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy. The producers suggest that the 9/11 Memorial & Museum likely facilitated these reunions, highlighting the enduring bonds formed during a moment of crisis.

'9/11 Reunited' is described as both a difficult and rewarding viewing experience, offering a blend of historical footage and inspiring accounts of human resilience and connection. The show is available on Hulu and Disney+.
