A Jewish doctor is appearing before a medical tribunal accused of making inflammatory and offensive social media posts. Dr. Parmis Lamei Javan allegedly posted on X, formerly Twitter, that her hospital was going to be "targeted and looted" by "Islamists" during riots that swept across England in July 2024. These riots followed the stabbing deaths of three young girls at a Taylor Swift dance class.
While working at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow, north London, Dr. Lamei Javan posted, "Tonight the hospital I am working at will be targeted and looted by the riots in the UK. I hope the staff and patients are kept safe." In a subsequent post in August 2024, she stated, "I am getting a lot of hateful comments for simply telling the truth that my hospital has been threatened by the Islamists."
The doctor also claimed that "even the local Labour Party" had issued a statement about the hospital receiving threats. She further alleged that security staff had received a warning from "organised rioters" and that the maternity ward was their first target. The charges against her state that her comments were both "seriously offensive" and motivated by racial or religious hostility.
Following an investigation by London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, Dr. Lamei Javan allegedly refused to cooperate. Instead, she is accused of making further "dishonest" online posts, including a claim that she had been permanently excluded from work "for simply condemning Hamas on Twitter." Mark Monaghan, representing the General Medical Council, told the tribunal that these claims were a "deliberate lie" and a "fabrication."
Mr. Monaghan stated that Dr. Lamei Javan had not been excluded but placed on restricted practice, and she eventually resigned in December 2024. He clarified that the investigation was for her posts alleging the hospital was under threat, not for condemning Hamas. Additionally, the doctor allegedly claimed that an HR staff member had used "antisemitic tropes" and accused the trust's HR department of behaving "like Nazis."
In a March 2025 interview on the YouTube channel 'Golda's Girls', Dr. Lamei Javan reportedly repeated her claims of being punished for condemning Hamas as an "Islamist Death Cult." She also allegedly claimed she had been accused of having a "mental illness" and that Hamas supporters had been hired by Qatar, which had a "stake" in the Trust. These comments are also alleged to be "seriously offensive" and motivated by racial or religious hostility.
Dr. Lamei Javan revealed during the interview that she was born Muslim in Iran but moved to Australia as a baby. She stated she converted to Judaism because her father had hidden his Jewish identity and assimilated due to the treatment of non-Muslims as "second-class citizens" in the Middle East. She later moved to the UK for her medical qualifications. The tribunal is also considering allegations that she failed to follow trust policy regarding absences, was dishonest about an absence, and failed to cooperate with the investigation.
