DNA testing has confirmed that the remains discovered in a Texas creek are those of Rana Nofal Soluri, a flight attendant who had been missing since March 2025. Soluri's former roommate, Dennis Day, has been charged with her murder.
The body was found on June 13 in Brushy Creek in Montague County, approximately 70 miles northwest of Fort Worth. The remains were sent to the University of North Texas Health’s Center for Human Identification, where DNA testing recently identified them as Soluri, 47.
Soluri, who worked for Envoy Air, a regional carrier owned by American Airlines, was reported missing on June 11, 2025, by a coworker after she failed to return to work following a minor operation and could not be reached. She had been expected back on March 31, 2025.
Dennis Day, 67, Soluri’s former roommate, was arrested in June 2025 and charged with murder. According to an arrest warrant, Day admitted to police that he strangled Soluri during a dispute and then transported her body about 70 miles to dispose of it over a bridge.
Investigators obtained home surveillance video from Day’s Fort Worth residence that appeared to show him dragging a body from the house to the backyard on March 21, 2025. Police also reported an accidental phone call that captured Day seeking assistance in moving Soluri’s body.
Joni Thomas, also known as Joanne Walters, 63, was charged with tampering with evidence with the intent to impair a human corpse. Authorities allege she assisted Day in disposing of Soluri’s body. Both cases are ongoing.
Prior to the DNA confirmation, prosecutors noted that Day had allegedly told fellow inmates he believed he could not be convicted if Soluri's body was never found. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported on court documents citing the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.
A GoFundMe page established for Soluri’s daughter stated that American Airlines assisted in transporting Soluri’s remains to Seattle for a Muslim burial, which occurred on September 29. The daughter plans to attend a future court date in Texas to deliver a statement.
