Djibril Cisse Rejects Accusations of QPR Throwing 2012 Match Against Man City
Former QPR striker Djibril Cisse has strongly refuted claims by former referee Mike Dean and Wayne Rooney that the club employed 'strange tactics' in the final moments of their 2012 Premier League match against Manchester City.
Djibril Cisse has publicly denounced allegations that Queens Park Rangers intentionally facilitated Manchester City's Premier League title-clinching goal in 2012. The former QPR forward was responding to comments made by former referee Mike Dean and ex-Manchester United player Wayne Rooney, who questioned the club's actions in the dying minutes of the match.
In a clip resurfaced from "The Overlap" podcast, Dean, who officiated the game, expressed bewilderment at QPR kicking the ball back to Manchester City immediately after Edin Dzeko's 92nd-minute equalizer. Dean described the tactic as "strange," suggesting an unusual atmosphere and that "something was going to happen."
Wayne Rooney echoed these sentiments, noting that QPR had former City players in their squad and that the quick restart to City was "never questioned" but found "strange." He also alluded to the Premier League's recent charges against Manchester City for alleged financial rule breaches.
Cisse, who played and scored for QPR in that match, took to social media to dismiss the claims. "I'm not gonna let you people talk s*** like that," Cisse stated. "Let's have a proper meeting and talk about it. Cause there is no way I gonna accept your bull**** anymore, so let's do it."
In a separate post, Cisse questioned the implications of the accusations. "Is it our fault if they [Man United] have lost 5 games in the league and waited the last game to win the league???"
This is not the first time Cisse has addressed such claims. He previously defended his post-match interactions with Manchester City players, particularly Samir Nasri. Cisse clarified that he was celebrating with his friend Nasri, who had been in England for many years, and expressed happiness for his friend's Premier League success, as well as QPR securing their status in the league. He emphasized that his celebration was with Nasri and not with opposing City players like Mario Balotelli or Sergio Aguero.
The 2011-12 season finale saw Manchester City snatch their first Premier League title with Sergio Aguero's iconic stoppage-time winner against QPR, securing a 3-2 victory on the final day. This dramatic conclusion denied rivals Manchester United the title on goal difference.
