DJ Funkmaster Flex Denies Being Punched at Knicks Game, Vows to Explain Incident
The Hot 97 DJ addressed a viral video of an altercation at Madison Square Garden, suggesting a different narrative.
Hot 97 DJ Funkmaster Flex has denied claims that he was punched in the face during an altercation at Madison Square Garden during the New York Knicks’ home opener on Tuesday night. A video circulating on social media appeared to show Flex involved in a physical dispute in the Delta Club at the arena.
However, Flex took to Instagram to dispute the video's premise. "I THIS WHERE I GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE? YEAH RIGHT! I DIDNT SEE THAT PART! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂," he wrote, sharing the video. He suggested that the incident involved individuals from the record industry and implied an attempt to provoke a lawsuit.
"IS THAT RECORD COMPANY GUY UPSET? ISNT HE A GUY THAT PROMOTES RECORDS? YOU MAD AT ME? WHY YOU CHASE ME LIKE THAT SHADOW?. I DID NOT SAY I WAS GONNA SUE! WHY DID SHADOW SAY? “HIT ME FIRST SO I CAN SUE YOU?"
Flex also shared a screenshot of an email from TMZ inquiring about the incident, with his response: "HAHAHAHAHA! PLEASE! YOU WISH I GOT PUNCHED IN THE FACE!" He speculated that he had angered "label guys" who might be seeking a "money grab."
In a separate Instagram story, Flex acknowledged enjoying "the narrative" of the punch but reiterated his stance, stating, "His team got an open case against me! We smarter than that!" He announced his intention to provide a full account of the event on his upcoming Hot 97 radio show.
The musician was present at Madison Square Garden for the Knicks' championship ring and banner ceremony from the previous season. The Knicks ultimately lost their season opener to the Philadelphia 76ers, 106-100.
