Australian tourist Sally Contarino, who vanished in Las Vegas last month, was last seen wearing a distinctive citrine pendant on a silver chain, her family has reported. The pendant, described as amber-colored and a "John Hary Kawung Citrine Sunset Colorway Pendant," could be a crucial clue in the ongoing search for the 26-year-old.
Contarino missed her flight back to Melbourne on June 20 without contacting her family. She was last seen leaving a supermarket in Skye Canyon on that same day. Her sisters, Lauren and Amy, are collaborating with Las Vegas officials in the search efforts.
Las Vegas police have stated that there are no updates on Contarino's whereabouts. A spokesperson for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) confirmed that the investigation is active and ongoing. "Detectives will continue to exhaust every lead but encourage anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact us," the spokesperson said.
According to a police report obtained by 8 News Now, Contarino was last heard from on June 20 when she informed a male friend via Facebook that she intended to hike at Lone Mountain before returning home. She had texted friends the previous day, June 19, stating, "I’m about to hike up Lone Mountain then go home – I fly back tomorrow."
Later on June 20, Contarino was seen leaving Timbers Bar & Grill around 10:30 p.m. after using an ATM. Employees at the establishment reported that her demeanor did not suggest anything was amiss. Authorities have indicated that she was last known to be in the vicinity of 9700 West Skye Canyon Drive around 1 p.m. on June 20. This area is located in northwest Las Vegas, near a busy intersection with various businesses.
Investigators have previously cautioned that Contarino "might possibly be in severe emotional distress and in need of medical assistance." It remains unknown if she was accompanied at the time of her disappearance.
The family is urging the public to keep an eye out for the unique necklace, which was purchased for Contarino from a vintage jewelry shop by her sister Lauren. "If Sally was wearing the necklace, someone may have seen it, found it, or come across it without realising its significance," a post on the local social media page Real Vegas Locals stated on behalf of the family. They also suggested monitoring online marketplaces such as eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and Poshmark for the item, emphasizing that "every detail, no matter how small, could be important."
Prior to her disappearance, a video surfaced showing Contarino outside a 7/11. In the footage, a man approaches her and asks for her phone number, to which she replies, "I have a boyfriend." The man then apologizes and leaves. The person who recorded the video had provided it to the Las Vegas police before sharing it publicly.
Contarino has now been missing for over three weeks. The LVMPD missing persons detail is leading the investigation.
