Disneyland is set to undergo a significant "reimagining" of its Tomorrowland section, a move confirmed by Thomas Mazloum, chairman of Disney Experiences, at the D23 fan convention on August 15. The announcement signals a renewed focus on the area, which has historically struggled to fulfill its ambitious original vision.

Mazloum described Disneyland as a place where guests "leave today and enter the worlds yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy." He indicated that with the park approaching its 75th anniversary and looking toward its centennial, it's time to "renew that promise once again in a way that deeply honors the original and imagines the future with optimism."

While specific timelines for the extensive upgrades were not disclosed, an official statement from Disney Parks suggested the overhaul will introduce new attractions, more open spaces, and enhanced opportunities for visitors to "dream about the future." This effort aims to honor Walt Disney's original concepts for Tomorrowland, a section that faced budget constraints during its initial development, leading to many early attractions, including the Submarine Voyage and Mission to Mars, eventually closing.

Following the announcement, Disneyland fans quickly voiced their desires on social media, with a predominant call for the return of the PeopleMover. This classic attraction, which transported riders through Tomorrowland on elevated trains, operated from 1967 until its closure in 1995. The physical tracks for the ride remain visible in the park, sparking nostalgia and widespread appeals for its reinstatement.

"PLEASE GIVE US THE PEOPLEMOVER BACK," one user commented on Instagram, a sentiment echoed by many others. The public outcry highlights a strong desire among parkgoers to see beloved, albeit defunct, attractions revitalized as part of the land's evolution.

In addition to the Tomorrowland updates, Disney also shared new details about an upcoming "Avatar" experience at Disney California Adventure. Unlike the "Avatar" world at Disney World in Orlando, which was inspired by the 2009 film, the California version will draw inspiration from "Avatar: The Way of Water" (2022) and future installments in the franchise. Physical models revealed a planned boat ride attraction that will immerse guests in the seas of Pandora, featuring both indoor and outdoor elements showcasing the alien wildlife and environments. This new area is slated to be located in the Hollywood Backlot, currently home to "Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue!," which will continue to operate during the new land's construction.
