Dionne Warwick Cancels Carnegie Hall Performance Due to Severe Pain
The 85-year-old music icon cited mobility issues stemming from intense pain as the reason for her last-minute withdrawal from a charity benefit concert.
Dionne Warwick, 85, was forced to cancel her performance at Carnegie Hall on Sunday night shortly before she was scheduled to take the stage, citing severe pain and mobility issues. The cancellation occurred at the charity benefit concert for Deborah Silver & Fabulous Friends: Voices for ALS at Zankel Hall in New York City.
In a statement released after the event, Warwick expressed her apologies for the abrupt cancellation. "My leg and foot would not allow me to stand nor walk at the moment," she explained. "Due to the pain, I just couldn't do anything other than cancel my appearance this time, as I focus on rest and recovering from it." She emphasized that "only the pain and inability to stand or walk is the reason for my absence."
This health setback follows an emergency leg surgery Warwick underwent last year to address what she described as "unbearable pain." At the time, she had assured fans that the procedure was successful and her recovery was progressing well.
Marilyn Maye, a veteran cabaret performer, stepped in to perform in Warwick's place at the Zankel Hall event. Other scheduled performers included Jon Secada, his daughter Mikaela Secada, and jazz singer Stella Cole.
Warwick has a history of performing at Carnegie Hall throughout her career. She is slated to perform in a series of concerts across Brazil in the coming week, with scheduled appearances in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, followed by a performance in Porto Alegre on October 21.
Last year, Warwick detailed the circumstances of her previous surgery, explaining that she was rushed into the operation by her doctor due to excruciating pain. She expressed gratitude that the situation did not lead to a more severe outcome and hoped to be "walking like a normal person" for future performances. She concluded by asking for prayers and understanding from her fans.
