Didi Conn, celebrated for her iconic role as Frenchy Facciano in the 1978 film "Grease," recently marked her 75th birthday, drawing attention to her enduring youthful appearance and sharing insights into her life and well-being.
Conn attributes her clear skin to genetics, stating she inherited "beautiful skin" from her mother and has never experienced acne. Her beauty regimen is simple, emphasizing gentle cleansing with a warm towel followed by liberal moisturizing. For makeup, she prefers a light touch, avoiding heavy coverage and opting for minimal eyeliner, blush, and lipstick.
She has expressed a preference for natural aging, shying away from cosmetic procedures like Botox or plastic surgery, which she finds concerning. "It's putting something foreign into your face. It scares me," Conn told People.
Health and Well-being
Beyond her beauty routine, Conn revealed a private health battle. She underwent a hysterectomy a year and a half ago after secretly battling uterine cancer. The operation affected her skin, leading her to use Laura Geller Care's moisturizer. "Having the hysterectomy changed my estrogen in a way that you know, wrinkled up," she explained.
Despite these challenges, Conn maintains a profoundly positive outlook. "I have so, so much to be grateful for, honestly," she told People, crediting her late "Grease" co-star Olivia Newton-John for influencing her perspective on gratitude.
Career and Personal Life
Born Edith Bernstein in Brooklyn, New York, Conn began her acting career in her early teens. Her breakout role as Frenchy in "Grease" propelled her to fame, followed by notable roles in sitcoms like "Benson" and "Shining Time Station." She also reprised her Frenchy role in "Grease 2" and appeared in the 2016 TV special "Grease: Live," making her the only original cast member to participate in all three "Grease" film and TV adaptations.
Her career also includes voice work as Raggedy Ann in "Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure" and roles in films such as "Frida" and "Most Likely to Murder." In 2019, at age 67, she became the oldest contestant to compete on the British figure skating show "Dancing on Ice."
Conn was married to Frank Conn from 1975 to 1978. She later married songwriter David Shire in 1984, with whom she has a son, Daniel, born in 1992. She is also stepmother to Shire's son, Matthew. Her son Daniel was diagnosed with autism at a young age, and Conn became a spokesperson for Autism Speaks in 2008.
Conn is slated to appear in the upcoming sports comedy-drama "Weekend Warriors," starring Mark Wahlberg.
