Diddy Returns to Solitary Confinement Amid Investigation into Prison Lifestyle
Hip-hop mogul reportedly placed in isolation following claims of special treatment and alleged VIP perks behind bars.
Sean 'Diddy' Combs, 56, has reportedly been returned to solitary confinement at FCI Fort Dix prison in New Jersey. The move comes in response to a recent NBC News report detailing allegations of preferential treatment and a lavish lifestyle he has allegedly been enjoying from inmates willing to cater to his needs. Sources told TMZ that this is standard procedure while prison officials conduct an investigation into the claims.
Combs was previously placed in solitary confinement in July after an altercation with another inmate. The latest report from NBC News alleges that Combs has had access to a cell phone, received nude photos from a former girlfriend, and used a modified tablet to watch documentaries critical of him, including one about his nemesis 50 Cent.
Several individuals who shared time in Combs's unit reportedly spoke to NBC News about his alleged privileged existence. According to these accounts, Combs has had access to smuggled premium liquor, purchased antidepressants from fellow inmates, and had others manage his fan mail and phone calls. One inmate allegedly provided him with massages.
Maintaining such a lifestyle reportedly involves significant financial outlay, with thousands of dollars allegedly spent monthly. This funding is said to come from individuals on the outside replenishing the commissary accounts of inmates working for Combs. Photos reportedly obtained by NBC News show custom meals prepared for him.
A representative for Combs, Juda S. Engelmayer, stated to the Daily Mail that "There is no way we can independently verify those rumors." Engelmayer also commented to the Daily Mail regarding the NBC report, saying, "The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs's life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news. The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court's decision on his appeal."
Combs is currently serving a sentence of four years and two months after being convicted last year on two prostitution charges. He was acquitted on more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. During his trial, his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura provided testimony detailing alleged abuse.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) has stated that for privacy, safety, and security reasons, they cannot comment on the conditions of confinement for any individual inmate. A BOP spokesperson did confirm that contraband, particularly cell phones, is a persistent challenge and that inmates found violating policies are subject to sanctions. The BOP also noted that allegations of staff misconduct are taken seriously and investigated if warranted.
Combs's release date has seen several adjustments since he began his sentence. Initially scheduled for May 2028, it was later moved to January 21, 2028, making it the earliest possible release date.
