Dianna Russini Hires Crisis Publicist Amidst Fallout from Mike Vrabel Scandal

NFL reporter Dianna Russini has enlisted veteran crisis publicist Melissa Nathan to assist her in navigating the aftermath of her involvement in the Mike Vrabel scandal. The move comes as Russini prepares to re-enter the professional sphere following her abrupt departure from The Athletic in April. The resignation occurred after an internal investigation into her personal relationship with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

A source familiar with the situation told Page Six that while the individuals involved have moved on, the media's continued focus on the matter prompted Russini to seek external support for her career relaunch. Melissa Nathan, known for her work with celebrities such as Logan Paul and Johnny Depp, brings extensive experience in crisis management.

Russini, who is represented by CAA, resigned from The Athletic after the outlet determined that her undisclosed personal connection to Vrabel violated its newsroom standards, despite concluding that her reporting was not compromised. The controversy gained significant public attention in April when Page Six published images of Russini and Vrabel holding hands at an Arizona resort in March. Both Russini and Vrabel, who are married to other individuals, initially downplayed the interaction, with Vrabel describing it as "completely innocent."

Further details emerged of their interactions, including an eyewitness account of them kissing at a New York City bar in March 2020. Vrabel has since taken accountability for the distraction caused and left the Patriots to seek counseling. Russini has not publicly addressed the scandal but has reportedly faced criticism related to the Patriots' performance following the incident.

Page Six previously reported that Russini was considering various career options, with a decision anticipated after the start of the NFL season. Her future employment status remains undisclosed, though interest in her return to sports media is reportedly high.
