Dianna Russini Hires Crisis Manager Amid Fallout From Mike Vrabel Scandal

NFL reporter Dianna Russini has enlisted the help of crisis publicist Melissa Nathan in an effort to salvage her career following a scandal earlier this year. Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic in April, shortly after photos emerged of her at an Arizona resort with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.

The photos, which surfaced around the time of an NFL Draft, sparked widespread speculation about the nature of their relationship. Russini and Vrabel, both married, initially denied an affair. However, further images later emerged, reportedly showing them kissing in March 2020. Vrabel has since issued an apology for his "actions" while not explicitly admitting to an affair, and took counseling.

Russini, who previously covered the NFL for ESPN when Vrabel was the head coach of the Tennessee Titans, stated in her resignation letter that she was stepping down because she refused to allow the media frenzy surrounding the situation to define her career or give it further oxygen. She expressed gratitude for The Athletic's initial support but noted that subsequent media commentary was "unmoored from the facts" and that the situation was escalating without regard for the outlet's review process.

Russini, 43, was reportedly earning approximately $800,000 annually at The Athletic. She has reportedly turned down interview offers and intends to share her perspective on her own terms. Nathan, her newly hired publicist, has previously worked with celebrities such as Logan Paul and Johnny Depp, and has herself been involved in public disputes regarding alleged smear campaigns.

While Russini has stepped away from her role, Vrabel has remained the head coach of the Patriots. He recently addressed rumors of a rift with his quarterback, Mac Jones, dismissing them as stemming from "unnamed sources."
