Diana Would Have Been 'Happy' If She Never Married Charles, Brother Claims
Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's brother, suggests she would have found happiness outside her marriage to the heir to the throne, according to a newly released account.
Princess Diana might have found happiness if she had never married Prince Charles, her brother Charles Spencer has stated. The assertion comes from an account of a prank phone call Diana made from the back of a car, as reported by Robert Jobson for the Daily Mail Online.
Spencer, who has written extensively on royal matters, suggests that the princess, had she not married the heir to the throne, would have been content. He claims that Diana found her own happiness and learned to cope with a marriage where her husband's affections lay with another woman, Camilla Parker Bowles. "Diana found her own happiness. She learned to live with a husband who loved Camilla, and she had affairs of her own," the report states, quoting Spencer.
He also suggested that what would grieve Diana now is the estrangement between her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. "What would grieve Diana now is the silence between her sons," Spencer reportedly said.
When Princess Diana died, her brother, Earl Spencer, delivered a notable eulogy that was critical of the Royal Family. He has since penned a book about his sister's life. "Now, Charles Spencer has written a book about his sister's life," the report noted.
Spencer insists that despite his parents' separation, he and Diana experienced a happy childhood. "Spencer insists that, despite his parents' split, he and Diana were happy enough," the article stated.
Regarding Prince Harry, Spencer commented on the possibility of a film about his mother. "Harry may well be making a film about his mother, Spencer said, but he does not know," the report indicated.
