Dialog Cafe Finds Temporary Home on Sunset Strip After Devastating Flood

Dialog Cafe, a West Hollywood staple, will reopen on October 3rd at The Sun Rose West Hollywood hotel on the Sunset Strip, offering a temporary residency after its original location was devastated by a July water main break. The cafe announced the move Wednesday, stating that its longtime Holloway Drive space suffered extensive damage and will require significant time to rebuild.

The July incident saw a 36-inch water transmission trunk line rupture beneath Sunset Boulevard at Holloway Drive, unleashing an estimated 17 million gallons of water and creating a massive sinkhole that inundated the cafe with mud and debris. The damage threatened to close the establishment, a popular community gathering spot known for its breakfast burritos, wraps, and coffee.

Despite the challenges, Dialog Cafe plans to offer its full menu and retain its original team at the temporary location. "Our corner on Holloway is a big part of what makes Dialog feel like Dialog, and we love it as much as you do," the restaurant stated in an Instagram post. "The damage there was extensive, and rebuilding it properly is going to take time. But Holloway is coming back."

The temporary relocation offers a lifeline for the cafe, which has been a fixture in the neighborhood for nearly 18 years. West Hollywood has seen a number of businesses close recently, and the loss of Dialog Cafe would have been a significant blow to the community.

Fans have expressed relief and support for the cafe's resilience. "There are too many WeHo staples that have shut down lately we don’t want to see you gone too," one commenter wrote on social media. Another added, "The community needs this! Weho feels incomplete without Dialog."

In a further development, Dialog Cafe announced it would refund all donations made to its GoFundMe campaign, which had sought $500,000 to support staff, cover cleanup costs, replace damaged equipment, and aid in recovery. The fundraiser had collected over $55,000 from hundreds of donors.

While the residency at The Sun Rose provides immediate operational continuity and keeps staff employed, the ultimate return to its original site remains uncertain. The cafe will rely on Sunset Strip foot traffic and its loyal customer base to sustain operations until its Holloway Drive location can be salvaged and rebuilt.
