The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is seeking to revoke the green cards of two Dominican nationals charged in connection with a deadly home invasion in Milford, Connecticut, that resulted in the death of one resident.
DHS identified the suspects as Ivan Antonio Barias-Florimon, 24, and Stuar Jose Lopez-Reyes, 25, both described by the department as "criminal aliens."
Investigators allege that the pair broke into a beach house on June 3 and fatally shot Fredrick Werner, 69. His wife was also injured in the incident and is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities apprehended Lopez-Reyes on July 30, following the issuance of arrest warrants on July 28. The U.S. Marshals, along with Milford and New Haven police, were involved in his arrest. Barias-Florimon was arrested by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force in the Bronx on August 1.
According to DHS, Barias-Florimon entered the United States in 2007 as the son of a lawful permanent resident. Lopez-Reyes entered the country on a visa in November 2016. DHS records indicate Lopez-Reyes was arrested in 2021 on charges including criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing, leading to a conviction for disorderly conduct. He was granted lawful permanent resident status in October 2022.
"Possessing a green card is a privilege, not a right," a DHS statement said. "Under our nation's laws, our government has the authority to revoke a green card if our laws are broken and abused."
