Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been arrested in Tampa, Florida, in connection with an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery incident that occurred on February 4. According to Tampa Police, investigators believe Arnold, 23, was the "primary conspirator" in a "targeted armed robbery" of three adult males in their late teens. The alleged crime followed an incident three days earlier where Arnold reported that personal property valued at over $250,000 was stolen from an Airbnb he was renting in Largo, Florida. Police stated that Arnold suspected two of the three robbery victims were responsible for the theft.
Arnold and six co-defendants are accused of luring the teenagers to a Tampa apartment. The victims reported being "battered, held at gunpoint, and pistol-whipped" before their property was stolen and they were ordered to leave. One of the defendants allegedly streamed the incident to Arnold and two others while en route to the apartment, and a group chat was reportedly used to provide directions during the assault. The victims reported the incident to Tampa Police, positively identifying the suspects. Investigators determined the victims were not involved in the Airbnb theft.
Arnold turned himself in on Wednesday and faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. The Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office indicated that the charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison. Arnold, a first-round draft pick in 2024, has played in 24 games for the Lions. The team acknowledged awareness of the situation, stating they would not comment out of respect for the ongoing legal process. Arnold's representatives issued a statement asserting there is no credible evidence linking him to the allegations and that the prosecution relies on testimony from convicted felons seeking to lessen their sentences. Arnold's legal team expressed confidence in his eventual vindication through the judicial process.
