A couple in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, are facing serious charges after allegedly throwing a lit explosive device with a two-word message into their neighbor's yard. Jason Showers, 45, and Megan Showers, 38, were arrested following the incident on Monday.

According to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, Megan Showers ignited the device, described as a red, cylindrical object with the words "BYE BYE" written on it, before her husband, Jason Showers, threw it into the yard of their 72-year-old neighbor. The neighbor was able to extinguish the device before any significant damage occurred.

Authorities searched the Showers' home and reportedly discovered firearms, ammunition, and materials used to assemble explosive devices. "The allegations in this case are serious and especially troubling because they involve a senior member of our community. My office is committed to protecting public safety and prosecuting cases where individuals are accused of endangering others," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido stated.

Jason and Megan Showers are each charged with placing explosives near property and possessing bombs with unlawful intent, both felonies carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years. Jason Showers also faces charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, as well as two counts of felony firearm possession. Due to Jason Showers' criminal history, which includes at least four prior felony convictions, he could face a life sentence if convicted of any of the primary charges.

The couple made their first court appearance on Wednesday, with their probable cause hearing scheduled for August 14. Jason Showers was assigned a $100,000 cash-only bond and remains in the Macomb County Jail. If released, he must wear a GPS tether, stay away from his home, and have no contact with his wife or the neighbor. Megan Showers' bond was set at $20,000, with the possibility of a 10% bond payment. She is permitted to return to the marital home but must not contact her husband or the neighbor.
