Details Emerge in Australian Double Murder Trial
Court hears of alleged killer's interactions with a friend and evidence found at the crime scene.
The trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon, accused of murdering Jesse Baird and Luke Davies, has heard testimony about his actions and statements in the days following the alleged killings. Senior Constable Dana Schagan, a friend of Lamarre-Condon, testified about a hypothetical question he posed to her regarding police response to gunshots, suggesting they might disregard reports if attributed to children with fireworks. She also described receiving a call from Lamarre-Condon after media reports of the alleged murders surfaced, during which he stated, "not everything in the news is true, it will come out in court." Schagan informed the court she told him, "You killed two people, why do you think I'd ever want to speak to you again?"
Additional evidence presented to the court includes a statement from a handyman hired to repair Baird's former rental property. The handyman reported that the back door of the residence appeared to have been "kicked open" and that the real estate agent requested the rear courtyard be pressure washed to remove bloodstains.
Prosecutors also read a statement from a woman who lived near a skip bin in Cronulla. She reported hearing banging late at night on February 21, 2024, and observing a "suspicious" man in a van or ute disposing of items in the bin. She described the man as tall and slim with olive skin, wearing a white hooded jumper. Her statement detailed seeing the man moving items in the bin, including a "large object that could have been drawers or furniture."
CCTV footage shown to the court depicted Lamarre-Condon at a Bunnings store on February 20, 2024, the day after the alleged murders. He was seen purchasing a drill and drill bit, followed by men's tradie pants, gumboots, a hoodie, and a dust mask, all paid for in cash. Further footage captured a white Toyota HiAce van driving through Paddington, the area where the alleged murders occurred, later that morning. Bank records indicate Lamarre-Condon dined at Sushi Train in Cronulla later that evening and walked along The Esplanade with a friend.
