DeSantis Gifts Trump Coin With Defiant Message
Florida governor presents president with a custom coin mocking would-be assassins ahead of a rally.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis presented President Donald Trump with a custom gold coin on Friday, featuring a defiant message directed at those who have attempted to harm him. The coin, which depicts Trump flipping his middle finger, is engraved with the phrase, "You missed bitches."
DeSantis gifted the coin to Trump just after the president arrived at the airport in Fort Myers for a rally. According to DeSantis, a friend of his creates these custom coins, and he felt compelled to give one to the president. "I told them, I said, ‘I need to get this to the president. Can I please have one to give to him?’ And so I was able to do it,” DeSantis told reporters.
The custom coin alludes to two assassination attempts on Trump. In July 2024, a gunman fired at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, grazing his ear. In September 2024, the Secret Service thwarted a second attempt when they spotted a sniper in the bushes at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, as Trump was golfing.
DeSantis and Trump have had a complex political relationship, evolving from allies to rivals during the 2024 Republican presidential primary. In recent years, DeSantis has made efforts to mend their relationship, including renaming West Palm Beach’s airport in Trump’s honor, establishing a migrant detention center dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz," and advocating for aggressive redistricting before the midterm elections.
Following the gift, Trump addressed the rally, expressing confidence in Republican energy ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. He criticized Democratic candidates, including Senate hopeful Angie Nixon and gubernatorial candidate David Jolly, labeling them as radical and disloyal.
"I’ve never seen a midterm with this kind of action,” Trump stated, asserting that Republicans possess significantly more energy than Democrats with just 11 days remaining until the elections.
Trump also touched upon his ongoing construction and renovation projects in Washington, D.C., dismissing the lawsuits against him. He commented on the state of the White House, claiming it had not been significantly updated since 1792.
Additionally, Trump reiterated his call for Rep. Ilhan Omar to resign from Congress and discussed the brief tenure of his former White House press secretary, Katie Zacharia, who resigned after her first press briefing.
The president concluded the rally by urging Republicans to mobilize for Election Day, stating, “Let’s go out and do what we do best, which is to win.”
