Derek Hough Trolled by Fans After Misidentifying 'DWTS' Contestant

During the premiere of "Dancing With the Stars" Season 35, judge Derek Hough mistakenly called contestant Tyler Cameron "Dylan." The slip-up occurred as Hough was offering feedback on Cameron's performance.

"Dylan, you have this, like, Patrick Swayze aura about you, right? You’re cool, masculine, just effortless. It really is amazing, truly," Hough told Cameron. The comment was immediately noticed by viewers who took to social media to react.

Fans quickly began posting about the misidentification, with many expressing amusement. "Did Derek call Tyler Dylan?! 🤣," one user commented. Another asked, "Am I the only one who heard Derek call Tyler Cameron Dylan 🤣🤣."

Some viewers speculated about the reason for Hough's error, with one user suggesting, "Bro Derek thinks Tyler Cameron is Dylan Efron from last year." Dylan Efron competed on "DWTS" last season, finishing in fourth place.

Hough has not yet publicly addressed the on-air mistake. Throughout the rest of his critique, Hough advised Cameron to marry his "presence" with "the technique, the frame and the posture" of the dance, predicting he would be "fantastic."

Cameron and his professional partner, Sharna Burgess, performed a tango to Lenny Kravitz's "Are You Gonna Go My Way," earning a score of 17 out of 30 from the judges. Judge Bruno Tonioli described Cameron as a "tank" and expressed pleasant surprise, noting the reality star's potential. Carrie Ann Inaba called the routine "really solid" and commended Cameron's "commanding presence," though she also noted a technical issue with Burgess's footwork, which drew boos from the audience.

Cameron is one of eight male celebrities competing in "DWTS" Season 35. The premiere week featured male celebrities performing to a No. 1 song from their birth year. The remaining eight female celebrities are scheduled to perform on the second night of the premiere, dancing to a chart-topper from their birth year.
