Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer stated Democrats are "nauseously optimistic" about reclaiming the Senate majority as voters across the U.S. cast ballots in the midterm elections. His remarks came as more than 58 million Americans had already voted early, surpassing the total number of early votes cast before Election Day in the 2022 midterms.

Despite the optimism, Schumer emphasized caution, noting that a year prior, "no one thought we'd be even close to taking the Senate back." Polling ahead of the midterms suggested a potential "blue wave" that could lead to Democratic control of both the House and the Senate, though Republican strategists have expressed skepticism about the accuracy of these polls.

Election Day itself saw various localized issues. In Florida, at least 19 polling stations were relocated due to severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall. The New York Attorney General's office reported it was "monitoring" issues with ballot scanners in Westchester County and was in communication with local election officials to resolve the problem, assuring voters that their ballots would still be counted.

The Trump Administration's approach to election oversight included the Justice Department deploying approximately 1,000 election monitors and observers across all 50 states, described as its "largest monitoring effort in history." This nationwide deployment marks an expansion of the department's historical role in monitoring elections. The Justice Department also faced legal challenges regarding its attempts to send states lists of alleged noncitizen voters, with a federal judge temporarily blocking such efforts and the Supreme Court rejecting an emergency request related to this matter.

In a notable campaign ad controversy, Democratic candidate for Ohio governor Amy Acton criticized an ad released by her Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy that featured Acton's estranged mother. While Ramaswamy doubled down on the ad with support from some Republican figures, others, including Ohio Senator Jon Husted, stated they would not have run such an advertisement.

Meanwhile, a Michigan Democrat, Rep. Haley Stevens, defended her late endorsement of Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers over her former primary opponent Abdul El-Sayed. Stevens described her decision as a "decision of conscience" despite widespread criticism from within her own party.

President Donald Trump spent Election Day at the White House, following a period of extensive campaigning. He had previously cast his own ballot early in West Palm Beach, Florida. The election results are expected to be tallied throughout the night and into the early morning hours.
